A TALENTED SONGWRITER TRIO with true STAR POWER
John Hegner
John’s musical journey began early with piano lessons at age six and compositions for piano by twelve. His stories and craft gained momentum at some of the most well-respected music schools in the country including Interlochen Arts Academy, Eastman, and Berklee College of Music.
John worked in Boston and New York for more than a decade, creating commercial music for clients like Reebok, CBS and Bloomberg. Versatile, adventurous, and curious, John has composed, recorded, performed and produced music for TV, radio and film. He has also performed in a variety of ensembles and disciplines, ranging from rock and jazz to experimental music. With deep roots in collaborative ventures, John has led workshops and participated in projects with poets, visual artists, and musicians.
In 2003, John relocated to the family farm to establish Starbell Hatchery, a recording studio and rehearsal space situated on an idyllic nature preserve in Harvard, Illinois, one hour northwest of Chicago.
John’s first solo album, 254, is a suite of songs emphasizing meaningful lyrics and hypnotic melodies. The smooth, dreamy vocals invite the listener to share in his musical journey through love, loss, faith, inspiration, and reflections on life.
In concert, John builds an intimate rapport with his audience, drawing upon the ancient traditions of music and storytelling. Having recently returned from a successful tour of "salon style" house concerts, he is currently in the studio recording his next solo project.
Jim Hulseman
Born in Evanston, Illinois, Jim started playing guitar in fourth grade and has played ever since. He mostly has learned by ear. Jim was a member of a band called “A Third Race” in the early 80s. You can catch him performing at St. Patrick’s Church in Lake Forest, Il. His influences include: The Beatles, Dylan, Donovan, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Bruce Cockburn to name a few.
Karen Slavin
Karen’s musical training began with her family, as the second of 11 kids, and the child of a preacher-learning blues based rhythm. She began writing songs and poems in middle school, as a means of emotional release.
As an adult, she began working with a production team. Recording demos, doing voiceover work, and performing. Karen realized a passion for using music as therapy when she was blessed with the opportunity to spend long hours with a woman on hospice, and soon after, began teaching Wiggleworms classes at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago.
She is currently living in Woodstock with her husband and 3 sons.
